Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span> Pelangio Exploration Inc, a mineral exploration company, on Monday, donated USD10,000 to the Appiatse Explosion Support Fund set up by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to aid persons affected by the accident.<\/p>\n

Mr Samuel Torkornoo, Vice President, Exploration Africa, who made the donation, lauded Government for the steps taken so far to support the victims of the explosion and urged corporates and individuals to contribute to the Fund.<\/p>\n

Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, Chairperson of the Appiatse Explosion Support Fund commended the Organisation for the contribution and said the gesture signified how sensitive they were to humanity.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though they are not a mining company, they know how important it is for communities to have the kind of sustainable livelihood that is required to give the social license to mining of all sorts,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rev. Dr. Aryee said the donation would send the right signals and encouragement to all companies within and outside the chamber of mines. Rev. Dr. Aryee said the explosion ought to be considered as a national issue because whatever happened to one Ghanaian affected all other Ghanaians.<\/p>\n

He advised citizens to re-embrace the culture of being one another\u2019s keeper, because that had always been the country\u2019s tradition and value system. On Thursday January 20, 2022, a truck transporting mining explosives erupted along the Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri road after a crash.<\/p>\n

The explosion killed 14 persons, injured 179 and displaced hundreds at Appiatse. The Minerals Commission shut down Maxam Ghana Limited, owners of the explosive truck,\u202fto pave way for investigations.<\/p>\n

Vice President\u202fMahamudu Bawumia who led a government delegation to the community said Government would collaborate with the State Housing Corporation and mining companies to construct temporary housing facilities for those displaced in the explosion.<\/p>\n
