{"id":1552,"date":"2019-08-19T12:44:34","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T12:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=1552"},"modified":"2019-08-19T12:44:34","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T12:44:34","slug":"my-jail-term-in-dubai-was-harrowing-daunting-terrific-and-horrific-nam-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/my-jail-term-in-dubai-was-harrowing-daunting-terrific-and-horrific-nam-1","title":{"rendered":"My jail term in Dubai was harrowing, daunting, terrific and horrific \u2013 NAM 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah alias NAM 1 has described his period of incarceration in Dubai as harrowing, daunting, terrific and horrific experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media for the first time since he arrived in the country, the owner of the gold dealership firm said the inhumane treatment made him ill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile my detention in Dubai was a harrowing, daunting, terrific and horrific experience, I am grateful to God because I feel very refined,\u201d he disclosed at the briefing covered.<\/p>\n<p>He commended customers for their patience and promised he is working round the clock to have their locked up cash paid to them with an appeal to government to support him retrieve about $39 million dollars owed him in the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>NAM 1 has been \u00a0charged for defrauding\u00a0 by false pretence and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).<\/p>\n<p>Two of his companies \u2014 Brew Marketing Consult and Menzgold Ghana Limited \u2014 represented by him, have each been charged with defrauding by false pretence, contrary to sections 20 (1) and 13 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).<\/p>\n<p>He has however pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him and was granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court \u00a0presided over by Jane Helen Akweley in the sum GH\u00a21 billion with five sureties two of whom must be justified.<\/p>\n<p>He had been in custody in Dubai since last year but he recently won his court case against Dubai-based gold dealership firm, Horizon in the $39 million gold trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah alias NAM 1 has described his period of incarceration in Dubai as harrowing, daunting, terrific and horrific experience.
