Accra, Feb. 19, GNA \u2013 Mr. Mustapha Ussif Minister of Youth and Sport has express worry over threats by some key stakeholders to boycott the 13th Africa Games to be hosted by Ghana.<\/p>\n

The Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC) has threatened to boycott the African Games following African Union\u2019s failure to involve the body in the organisation of the Africa Games.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 1st Joint Technical Committee Meeting organized by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Accra 2023 Africa Games, Mr. Ussif said, the key stakeholders had threatened to boycott the Games due to differences and unresolved issues between the LOC and AASC.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister many continental federations had as a result of the threats refused to attend the 1st Joint Technical Committee Meeting, adding that it was not good for the organization of the Games.<\/p>\n

The Minister described the situation as \u201csad\u201d saying the government of Ghana was committing over $200 million into the organization of the Games, adding that the investment was going into the provision of standard facilities for the hosting of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith all these sacrifices from the government of Ghana, it is sad to note that, because of differences among us, most Africa Federation heads have absented themselves from this meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we are Africans, we are confronted with challenges, but we always find ways to over those challenges and I hope we shall resolve all outstanding issues soon,\u201d he added. Ghana is getting ready to host the 13th Africa Games dubbed \u201cAccra 2023\u201d between July and August, next year.<\/p>\n
