Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Ho, Feb. 25- Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has called on the Ghanaians to rise above fears and rumours and support the government\u2019s efforts at attaining herd immunity from the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

He said most misinformation surrounding the coronavirus vaccines, were the creations of doomsayers including new age evangelists, and that the nation must consider itself well above such narrow-mindedness.<\/p>\n

The President of the House, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, made the admonishment at the opening of the 2021 Annual Health Performance Review Conference of the Volta Regional Health Directorate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Volta Regional House of Chiefs took the initiative to vaccinate our own chiefs to set as an example to the entire community. If there should be any beliefs about the spiritual effects about the vaccine, I think the Chiefs should have taken the first blow. But so far after the vaccination, I did not have any adverse effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cRather, it is some of these pastors who go on preaching to us that the vaccines contain the devil with the number 666. I think we have grown beyond all of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis vaccine is safe, and indeed my good friend Dr. Dzokoto has assured me that come Friday, my Chiefs are going to receive boosters.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll these go to show that the chiefs are in the lead to serve as examples to the citizenry about the safety of these vaccines,\u201d he added, and again said, \u201cLet us encourage people to take the vaccines to preserve the lives of all of us,\u201d Togbe Tepre said.<\/p>\n

He added that chiefs continued to play their respective roles in providing healthcare for their people, despite an ever-eroding traditional authority, and would support the vaccination drive.<\/p>\n

The conference was on the theme \u201cAchieving Universal Health Coverage in the Midst of the Covid 19 Pandemic: The Role of Effective and Innovative Leadership\u201d brought together health directors and other heads of the service from the Region.<\/p>\n

Dr Timothy Letsa, Regional Director of Health Services, said some 500,000 individuals in the Region were yet to vaccinate against the coronavirus, a situation that got the Health Service working to strategise together with stakeholders on conquering the trend. GNA<\/p>\n
