Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Nigeria defender Ifeanyi Udeze fears the potential involvement of Rangers defender Calvin Bassey for this month’s decisive 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana could prove disastrous.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has opted to represent the African giants at the international level despite being eligible to play for Italy or England as well.<\/p>\n

The centre-back could make his epic debut for the Super Eagles ahead of the decisive 2022 World Cup playoff against perennial rivals Nigeria this month due to the absence of some key players.<\/p>\n

However, former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has warned against fielding the player due to his lack of exposure on the African continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cBassey has done well for his club in Scotland, but I still have my fears about playing him in the matches against Ghana because he has yet to play a match, friendly or official, against an African team,\u201d Udeze argued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he had played such a game, he will have the confidence to cope with African football, which is very different from what they play in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The left-footed defender has been flying with Scottish champions Rangers this season, while direct rivals like William Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem and Leon Balogun have struggled at their respective European clubs.<\/p>\n
