Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) Unit of the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Department of Food and Agriculture, has trained members of Nyame Adom Women Rice Farmers Group, on liquid soap preparation as an alternative livelihood venture.<\/p>\n

Alternative livelihood training was mostly conducted during the off-season when farmers were not doing any major farming activities. This was to enable farmers to gain additional income thereby improving their standards of living. The training is being funded under the Modernisation of Agriculture Project (MAG).<\/p>\n

Miss Adwoa Serwaa Asamoah, WIAD Officer, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview at Kadjebi in the Oti Region. She said the 28 beneficiaries of the Nyame Adom Women Rice Farmers Group at Asato, were taken through the processes of liquid soap preparation, bottling, packaging, and ways of using and handling the active ingredients in the manufacturing process.<\/p>\n

Mr Besa Akpalu, Kadjebi District Director of MOFA, encouraged the participants to take it up as a business venture, produce and sell for extra income.<\/p>\n

He said they needed to engage in additional income generation ventures to supplement what they have and never see themselves as poor, especially during the lengthy period of the dry season.<\/p>\n

Madam Agartha Bonsu, a beneficiary, and the Chairperson of Nyame Adom Women Rice Farmers Group thanked the organisers for the training and promised to educate, share, and train other women.<\/p>\n

She said there was the need for women to engage themselves in extra income generating activities to support the family and not rely on their husbands for everything at home.<\/p>\n
