Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The National Dance Company, a residence theatre group,\u202fNational Theatre of Ghana has been booked to participate in the\u202fMemphis in May International Festival in the United States of America (USA) to promote and celebrate culture, foster economic growth, and enhance international awareness through education.<\/p>\n

A 15-Member group of the National Dance Company would leave Ghana from\u202fMay 2nd\u202fto May 9th\u202fto join other global theatre groups, billed to perform at the festival.<\/p>\n

According to Nii\u202fAko\u202fTetteh, Head of the Public Affairs Department of the National Theatre,\u202fthe Memphis in May International Festival hosts the city\u2019s largest events like the Beale Street Music Festival and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema\u202fon Friday, Nii\u202fTetteh\u202fsaid the festival also produces extensive education, international, and economic programmes for the city.<\/p>\n

He said the National Dance Company\u2019s participation and performance in the festival serve as recognition of Ghana\u2019s rich cultural heritage and acknowledgment of the pedigree of the dance company.<\/p>\n

Nii\u202fTetteh\u202fexplained that the repertoire of the dance company includes traditional performances from all sixteen regions in Ghana, contemporary dance pieces, dance drama,\u202fand dances from all West African countries.<\/p>\n

He said the dance company made of dancers, singers, officials, and drummers is\u202fhopeful to hit the festival with performances\u202fincluding Bukom, Musu, The King’s Dilemma, Araminta, Agro, and Ayiyii\u202famong others.<\/p>\n

The National Dance Company group over the past 60\u202fyears nurtured skillful\u202fand professional talented members with experience aiming\u202fto entertain audiences all over the world and on every continent.<\/p>\n

However, they had mastered in Ghanaian traditional dances and other foreign cultural dances in collaboration with additional theater\u202fgroups who are professionals. GNA<\/p>\n
