The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nabdam District in the Upper East Region, Agnes Anamoo \u00a0 could not hold back a loud tearing cry at the death of two persons who died in a flood on a bridge connecting two communities in the district.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man in his 50\u2019s identified as Cyril Bayor from the Upper West Region, also a worker of a Mining company operating in the Talensi Area and a woman identified only as a native of Nyogbare, a community in the district died on Thursday afternoon after a tricycle they were riding in capsized in overflowing waters over a bridge.<\/p>\n

Eyewitnesses say a combined team of officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and passersby spent close to three hours in search of the bodies of the two which were later found.<\/p>\n

The tricycle driver only identified as Abugre survived the accident and was later arrested by the police after he was subjected to severe beatings by angry residents.<\/p>\n

He has since been released on bail and assisting in investigations.<\/p>\n

According to him, he trusted he could cross the flooded bridge to their destination because of his familiarity with the flooded area. Upon reaching the middle of the flooded bridge, they were washed away by the running water.<\/p>\n

Madam Agness Anamoo, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Nabdam District rushed to the scene upon notification of the unfortunate incident.<\/p>\n

She could however not hold back her tears upon reaching the accident scene. The Honorable District Chief Executive could hardly utter a word but could only be heard weeping uncontrollably.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest the Pelungu Sekoti Bridge has in the past recorded several of such incidents during the rainy seasons. It is the same route that links many communities from Sekoti, Nyogbare and Kulpeliga to the Pelungu Market, which is the biggest market in the District.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
