Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span> Ghana has recorded a total of 1,311 active cases as of June 16, according to the latest COVID-19 update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).<\/p>\n

Data from the COVID-19 portal indicated that there were 14 severe cases on admission at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with no death cases recorded so far.<\/p>\n

Statistics from the portal have also shown that the number of active cases increased from 1,064 on June 13 to 1,311 on June 16. New cases recorded as of June 16 stood at 243 with two critical cases recorded so far.<\/p>\n

The Greater Accra Region has recorded the highest number of cases with 1,045 infections, followed by Eastern Region with 53 cases, Ashanti, and Bono East Regions with 47 and 38 cases respectively.<\/p>\n

The Central Region recorded 30 cases followed by the Bono Region 22 cases, Volta, and the Western Regions with 20 and 14 cases. The Western North Region has recorded 10 cases, six cases in the Upper East Region with five cases each recorded in Ahafo, Northern and Upper West Regions.<\/p>\n

There are four cases in Northeast Region so far, one case in the Oti Region, with no cases in Savannah Region. Data from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) COVID-19 update page also indicated that six cases were recorded among international travelers.<\/p>\n

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.<\/p>\n

However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Signs and symptoms of COVID-19, include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell and sore throat.<\/p>\n
