According to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Nana Addo \u00a0Akufo Addo has perfected the act of exonerating his appointees in any wrongdoing when they stand accused of having engaged in some malfeasance of a sort.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a press conference on Wednesday August 28, 2019, addressed by National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC stated that the president has perfected the act of being a clearing agent of corruption in his government, adding that he has failed to \u201clive up to his much-vaunted anti-corruption credentials.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NDC argues that since appointees of the Akufo Addo government who are implicated in alleged acts of corruption are not punished, it has emboldened \u201cmany in his government to engage in corruption with such brazenness and boldness.\u201d<\/p>\n

The press conference, held as part of \u2018The Moment of Truth Series, a regular press briefing by the NDC on current political issues, tackled the \u201cContracts for Sale\u201d Documentary by Manasseh Azure Awuni which uncovered that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), AB Adjei has set up a company that secures government contracts and sells them to the highest bidder.<\/p>\n

The documentary has led to the suspension of AB Adjei by the President while the Special Prosecutor has invited him( AB Adjei) for questioning over his role in the scandal.<\/p>\n

According to the NDC executive, the President has shown ill-fate in the fight against corruption by \u201cthe promotion of corruption and spares no opportunity to defend the corrupt activities of his errant appointees. He has perfected the act of being a clearing agent of corruption in his government. His failure to live up to his much-vaunted anti-corruption credentials and punish corruption on the part of his appointees is what has emboldened many in his government to engage in corruption with such brazenness and boldness.<\/p>\n

Aside normalizing the practice of corruption in his government, President Akufo-Addo himself is not left out of the ongoing rot in his government, as evidenced by the executive approval he gave for the fraudulent and highly inflated Mytilineos deal through which Ghana would have lost a whopping $800m but for the vigilance of the NDC minority caucus in parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
