{"id":23055,"date":"2022-07-15T16:32:03","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T16:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/uncategorized\/education-will-remain-a-major-priority-in-my-administration-sam-pyne"},"modified":"2022-07-15T16:57:22","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T16:57:22","slug":"education-will-remain-a-major-priority-in-my-administration-sam-pyne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/education-will-remain-a-major-priority-in-my-administration-sam-pyne","title":{"rendered":"Education will remain a major priority in my administration\u2014Sam Pyne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Mr Samuel Pyne, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), says improvement in quality education delivery will remain his topmost priority as the mayor of Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p>He said education played an important role in national development and the Assembly would continue to place much premium on quality education delivery by improving teaching and learning at all levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI prioritise education not because of my background as an educationist, but the important role quality education plays in the national development,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pyne was speaking at separate ceremonies to inaugurate a six-unit classroom block and a two-unit Kindergarten block for Fankyenebra M\/A and Apramang M\/A schools respectively, in the Kumasi Metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>The projects were funded by the Assembly\u2019s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund at a cost GHC396,567 The two-unit kindergarten block includes a kitchen, washroom and an office.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr Pyne, school furniture would also be procured and supplied to all the newly completed school blocks and other existing schools, which lacked furniture, to enhance teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Assembly together with the Members of Parliament (MP\u2019s) from the metropolis were lobbying for more educational facilities from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to close the infrastructure gap in the Metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor appealed to the school authorities to practise maintenance culture by taking good care of the facilities to prolong their lifespan. He advised the pupils to desist from writing their nicknames on the school walls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need a good maintenance culture to protect national resources, especially those relating to infrastructural projects,\u201d the mayor advised. Mr Pyne pledged to continue to rehabilitate and build more schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr David Oppong, Kumasi Metro Director of Education, said education was the foundation for building the successes of every nation and government were determined to support the schools to achieve their objectives<\/p>\n<p>He lauded the KMA for spearheading the execution of the projects, saying they would help to create access for more Ghanaian youth to be educated and advised the pupils to learn hard to become responsible citizens.
