Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Bente Skanguards, a Norwegian disability charity organisation, has provided financial support to twenty women with disabilities in the Volta Region.<\/p>\n

The organisation in August last year, equipped the women with employable skills, offered them training in wig and wreath making to enable them to become economically independent.<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries are members of Women with Disability Development and Advocacy Organisation (WODAO), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) for women with disabilities based in Ho.<\/p>\n

Madam Veronica Kofiedu, President of WODAO, who presented the monies to the beneficiaries, told Ghana News Agency the funds were to help the women buy the necessary materials needed for their business.<\/p>\n

She said the funds had come at the opportune time to support the beneficiaries to remain in business amidst the current economic hardship and thanked Bente Skanguards for the gesture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe envisaged that the financial support would help reduce the vulnerability of the women, and project their positive image as equal contributors to their families’ income,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Madam Kofiedu said WODAO was established in 2017 to promote independent living and social inclusion of marginalised women with disabilities in the Volta and Oti Regions, through advocacy, awareness creation and capacity building.<\/p>\n

Some beneficiaries who spoke to GNA were grateful to Bente Skanguards for the support and WODAO for championing their rights and wellbeing. They said the funds would go a long way to help them to continue with their businesses and to generate income to support their families.<\/p>\n
