{"id":2625,"date":"2019-09-05T12:22:26","date_gmt":"2019-09-05T12:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=2625"},"modified":"2019-09-05T12:22:26","modified_gmt":"2019-09-05T12:22:26","slug":"npp-govt-is-a-special-purpose-vehicle-for-corruption-kwakye-ofosu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/npp-govt-is-a-special-purpose-vehicle-for-corruption-kwakye-ofosu","title":{"rendered":"NPP gov&#8217;t is a special purpose vehicle for corruption \u2013 Kwakye Ofosu \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Felix Ofosu Kwakye<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Deputy Communication Minister in the erstwhile Mahama government, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described the Nana Addo-led government as a special purpose vehicle for corruption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to him, the posture of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointees in the governance of the country and handling of corruption cases is appalling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is as if it is open season on the National coffers, so every Tom, Dick and Harry is helping himself with the public coffers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Citing the National Youth Authority, Power Distribution Service and the Public Procurement Authority scandals and how the government has dealt with it as a clear indication of the President\u2019s failure to tackle corruption in the public sector, Kwakye Fosu said the mere admission that government handed over a GHC22 billion asset like the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to an entity with dubious credentials like the Power Distribution Service (PDS) should be enough evidence for heads to roll even before investigations into the issue commence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat it means is that people slept on the job, they allowed the ball to pass and in addition to this we have heard nothing about the outcome of the investigation,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Buttressing his claims with more examples, the Former Deputy Minister cited the Australian scandal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an established fact that official took people who were not journalist to Australia and that brought huge embarrassment on the country, we were told that an enquiry has been set up into the matter but nothing has come out of it\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Comparing the two major political parties\u2019 willingness in fighting corruption, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the NDC has showed more readiness to tackle the social canker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at the Victoria Hammer case, even though I have a difficulty finding what she said to be wrong because expressing an aspiration is not a sin, the former President fired her within the course of 24 hours\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the case of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA)\u00a0 Even though Mr. Abuga Pele was a leading member of the National Democratic Congress the President did not hesitate to arraign him before court which ultimately resulted in his imprisonment and the entities involved were made to refund monies\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven in the bus branding scandal, not only did the Minister resign within hours of the breaking of that story, the companies involved were made to refund monies paid to them\u201d he iterated.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said, former President Mahama took concrete steps to tackle corruption, something Nana Akufo-Addo has not had the courage to do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Felix Ofosu Kwakye A Deputy Communication Minister in the erstwhile Mahama government, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described the Nana Addo-led government as a special purpose vehicle for corruption.
