Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supporters of a disqualified National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate in Asawase have vowed to vote against any candidate who will represent the party in the 2020 parliamentary election.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Masawudu Mubarick, who was contesting incumbent MP, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed was disqualified by the party.<\/p>\n

His aggrieved supporters who besieged the premises of the disqualified aspirant say the party\u2019s leadership erred in the disqualification.<\/p>\n

A delegate who spoke to Citi News expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a matter of fact, I think this news for me is an embarrassment to the democracy we are practicing in Ghana. The whole issue is a very simple issue. It is a debate between letting the delegates of Asawase exercise their democratic right and imposing somebody on the people of Asawase. We saw it in the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another aspirant threatened to vote against Muntaka.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will vote skirt and blouse. If the national executives wanted the party to win massively, they would have sought our opinion. They would not have imposed anyone on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency, Muntaka Mohammed, the green light to represent the party in the 2020 parliamentary election.<\/p>\n

This follows the recommendation of the party\u2019s Committee for settlement of outstanding disputes (the Doe Adjaho Committee) that handled petitions into the selection of NDC parliamentary candidates for next year\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n

The NDC held parliamentary primaries nationwide but the elections were put on hold in five constituencies including Asawase.<\/p>\n

The party later held the polls in four of the constituencies leaving Asawase where some NDC members had filed a petition to the National Executive Council of the party following their inability to file the nomination form of Masawudu Mubarick, the aspirant who is challenging the incumbent MP, Muntaka Mubarak.<\/p>\n

But the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party in a statement issued on Tuesday said it has:<\/p>\n

\nMassawudu Mubarick, Disqualified candidate<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026..declared Mr. Massawudu Mubarick disqualified to contest the Asawase Constituency for the 2020 elections. By this decision, Hon. Mubarak goes unopposed and for that matter stands elected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Asawase Constituency.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the party says the two petitions relating to Asunafo South and Banda constituencies were amicably settled.<\/p>\n

A disgruntled Masawudu Mubarick had expressed concern that the posturing of some party executives indicates that they do not want him to contest, Muntaka Mubarak, who is the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament.<\/p>\n

His nomination forms were rejected at the constituency and regional level because of some pending disciplinary action against him.<\/p>\n

He found the regional office of the party under lock and key when he arrived at the premises on to file his nomination form back in July.<\/p>\n

Supporters of Mubarick Masawudu staged a protest at the NDC regional office in Kumasi where they burnt car tyres and posters of national executives and former President John Mahama.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
