Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Dr Opoku-Afari was inducted into the prestigious academy at a ceremony held in the institution\u2019s auditorium in Accra last Tuesday. It was graced by the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,p the Governor of BoG, Dr Ernest Addison, and a host of other distinguished personalities.<\/p>\n

The First Deputy Governor was inducted into the fellowship by the President of GAAS, Emeritus Professor Samuel Kofi Sefa-Dedeh, alongside other distinguished scholars, who have excelled in the fields of arts and sciences.<\/p>\n

The academy is a group of distinguished personalities in arts and sciences working to promote the pursuit, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in all branches of the sciences and the humanities. Bases A citation described the First Deputy Governor\u2019s contribution to national and economic development as significant.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Opoku-Afari, on account of your noteworthy contribution to policy-relevant research and modernisation of monetary policy frameworks in low-income and developing countries, you were elected Fellow of the GAAS on October 20, 2022. Congratulations\u201d, the Vice- President of the GAAS (Arts Section), Prof. Kofi Opoku Nti, said.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr Opoku-Afari expressed gratitude to the President and the council of GAAS. HistoryThe GAAS was founded in 1959 on the initiative of Ghana\u2019s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.<\/p>\n

It is aimed at promoting the pursuit, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in all branches of the sciences and the humanities. At the time it was established, the academy was the first in Black Africa.<\/p>\n
