Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has eulogised deceased former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, calling him \u201can African hero who fought to liberate his people notwithstanding his own faults.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Mugabe died at the age of 95 yesterday. He had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore since April. He was ousted in a military coup in 2017 after 37 years in power.<\/p>\n

The Vice President praised him for expanding access to education during his tenure which made Zimbabweans one of the most educated of all African countries.<\/p>\n

Mugabe died as one of the most educated world leaders having received six degrees from various universities. \u201cTalking to him you would hear a very well read man and a deep thinker. He knew his world history inside out and could easily floor you with counter arguments,\u201d Dr Bawumia lauded<\/p>\n

Dr Bawumia joins many other world leaders who have expressed admiration for the deceased leader.<\/p>\n

With the passing of His Excellency Robert Mugabe, Africa has lost a true liberation hero. He fought for and liberated his people from the apartheid Rhodesian regime of Ian Smith. He became Zimbabwe\u2019s first President and under his leadership Zimbabweans became one of the most educated of all African countries.<\/p>\n

Talking to him you would hear a very well read man and a deep thinker. He knew his world history inside out and could easily floor you with counter arguments.\u00a0 He saw the challenges the Zimbabwean economy faced as a price the West made\u00a0 Zimbabwe pay for taking control of the land of Zimbabwe for the black population.That is however a discussion for another day.<\/p>\n

Today we salute an African hero who fought to liberate his people notwithstanding his own faults.<\/p>\n
