Some Members of Parliament, including North Tongu MP, have been accused of crippling Metro Mass Transport company, a state-owned transport company.<\/strong><\/p>\n

George Krobea, Public Relations Officer of the company, told\u00a0 Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and other MPs including\u00a0\u00a0Zebilla MP, Cletus Avoke, owe the company \u00a21.5m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Mr. Krobea, the debt\u00a0which has been outstanding since 2016, has created a frosty relationship between the company and its partner, Goil, an upstream oil company owned by the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese debts\u00a0are owed by individual Members of Parliament. And it is actually crippling the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should also not forget that the business was fueled. And that\u00a0fuel was bought in 2016 from Goil.\u00a0 We cannot go and tell Goil to wait, we are in 2019 and moving to 2020,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n

Giving a background to these\u00a0debts, Krobea said they were accrued from the hiring of buses for\u00a0campaigns in the last elections.<\/p>\n

He added that several letters to the MPs to honour their financial obligations have fallen on deaf ears.<\/p>\n

Ablakwa\u2019s response<\/p>\n

However, the North Tongu MP has denied the allegations.<\/p>\n

Writing on his Facebook wall, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa\u00a0said: \u201cto the best of my knowledge, I have redeemed all obligations to the Metro Mass Transit Ltd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Explaining further he added, \u201cAt my request, soon after the 2016 election, I demanded to know the entire amount owed for transport services rendered to my beloved constituents during the electioneering period and for which I promptly paid in full as far back as 28th June 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n

Okudzeto attached evidence of payment with an official receipt which had \u201cnumber: 0190199 \u201cand signed by \u201cDiana Delali, the Metro Mass Transit Receiving Cashier.\u201d<\/p>\n

He alleged that what is happening is a \u201cwell-coordinated smear campaign\u201d for which he may take legal action to clear his name.<\/p>\n
