Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu says he will become one of the longest-serving members of Parliament when he stands for re-election in the 2024 elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

Sure of victory, the Tamale South Member of Parliament (MP) says it would be his sixth term as a lawmaker.<\/p>\n

Addressing party sympathisers and supporters on Sunday, March 19, when he filed his nomination, Haruna Iddrisu also promised to deliver over 90,000 votes for the next flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n

\u201cTamale South in the last presidential and parliamentary elections made a significant contribution of 69,000 votes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy pledge this year will be [that] with your assurance and support, 90,000 for John Mahama or whoever wins the NDC Presidential Primaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also indicated that as a consummate democrat, he is open to any challenge from any member of the party for an internal contest.<\/p>\n

The primaries are set for Saturday, May 13.<\/p>\n

Haruna Iddrisu is likely to go unopposed despite the seeming differences between him and the current executives of the NDC.<\/p>\n

He was replaced as Minority Leader by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson in January in a reshuffle that saw some of his supporters in Tamale hit the streets, threatening the Asiedu Nketia-led executives.<\/p>\n
