Security was tightened in the Asawase constituency as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region proceeds with its parliamentary primaries despite an injunction secured by one Manaf Ibrahim, a disqualified aspirant, against the polls in the constituency.<\/p>\n
Armed military and police personnel were deployed to the area secure the process and endure calm.<\/p>\n
The voting took place at Adukrom St. Paul’s Church in the constituency.<\/p>\n
All entrances leading to the venue was secured by armed security personnel.<\/p>\n
A delegate or observer had to be verified before allowed entrance.<\/p>\n
The constituency is popularly acclaiming its sole candidate, Mr Alidu Seidu.<\/p>\n
The leadership of the party in the constituency say they are proceeding with the polls because they have not been served with the disqualified candidate\u2019s court injunction.<\/p>\n
Mr Ibrahim, a special aide to the Vice-President, was disqualified by the Vetting Committee of the party, paving the way for the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Alidu Seidu, to contest unopposed.<\/p>\n
867 delegates including constituency executives, polling station executives, and the council of elders were expected at the conference.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s Constituency Secretary for Asawase, Abdul Majid Adam told Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that the constituency executives have not been served with any court injunction.<\/p>\n
He said no communication of such has also been made to them by the regional or national executives and for that reason they will go ahead with the primary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
