{"id":39393,"date":"2023-04-09T17:42:58","date_gmt":"2023-04-09T17:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=39393"},"modified":"2023-04-09T17:42:58","modified_gmt":"2023-04-09T17:42:58","slug":"government-accords-church-freedom-to-worship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/government-accords-church-freedom-to-worship","title":{"rendered":"GOVERNMENT ACCORDS CHURCH FREEDOM TO WORSHIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Government will continue to allow churches to worship freely as part of democracy and national development, Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has said.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking during Eloyi Christian Church&#8217;s Easter holidays ceremony in Tsetsebjwe, Minister Morwaeng said government would not violate the people\u2019s right to worship freely and also called on churches to pray for peace.<\/p>\n<p>The minister also spoke against the people who sought to divide the nation along tribal lines.<\/p>\n<p>As such, he called on Eloyi Christian Church members to pray for peace and unity that will see Botswana develop and move in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Morwaeng thanked churches for praying against COVID-19 at a time when people were in panic mode while others were worried about their lives and those of their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>In other issues, the minister said for the church to start moulding better citizenry, it should start with members loving each other and curbing divisions within the church.<\/p>\n<p>Such divisions, he said, had the ability to portray the church as an institution unworthy of recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re the light of this nation and people should learn to love from you,\u201d said Minister Morwaeng who encouraged churches to preach peace and love.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the minister called on churches to pray against social ills such as lawlessness, gender-based violence, defilement and rape, killings amongst other ills.<\/p>\n<p>He said in praying against such ills the church would help dig people out of darkness into holiness.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Kgosi Kgosidialwa Motsamai of Tsetsebjwe called on the church to pray for peace during 2024 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur being as Batswana is such that we express our difference through verbal discourse. We\u2019re never the ones to take arms and shed blood,\u201d said Kgosi Motsamai.<\/p>\n<p>The village leader challenged government to allocate plots to churches as they help foster peace and engage in some charitable exercises towards helping the needy.<\/p>\n<p>He said allocating plots to the churches would rid them from conducting their affairs from homes.<\/p>\n<p>Eloyi&#8217;s Archbishop Sekai Jakoba said he was committed to praying for discovery of cure for HIV\/AIDS and cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Arch Bishop Jakoba said the two ailments were killing many people, therefore, he took a spiritual sojourn to Israel to nurture and nourish himself for the battle ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The Eloyi leader also talked against GBV saying the scourge seemed to unending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m against GBV and I\u2019m praying that God tame our hearts&#8230;we can\u2019t have a society where a father can\u2019t be left with their kids fearing for defilement and rape,\u201d said the archbishop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\">Ghana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
