Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war on global economies is real, the Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

He told Ghanaians not to be deceived by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to think otherwise.<\/p>\n

Despite the effect of these two exogenous factors, he said, the government of Ghana continues to pay salaries and provide essential public services.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva has also repeated her comment that Ghana\u2019s economy has been negatively impacted by the Russia-Ukraine war.<\/p>\n

She described Ghana as an innocent bystander that has been hit by the Covid pandemic and the war.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ongoing IMF\/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, she said \u201cwe have been in constant contact with authorities in Ghana, we have worked very hard and very swiftly to have the programme, $3bn support programme, for Ghana in place.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been urging Ghana\u2019s creditors to act swiftly. My appreciation also for the proactive role of the Minister of Finance of Ghana in reaching out to the creditors. We are expecting that next week there will be discussions among creditors.\u201d<\/p>\n

She further indicated that the Fund has asked Ghana\u2019s creditors to act swiftly to ensure that the deal that the country is seeking with the Fund is approved.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you that I use every opportunity myself to urge them to act swiftly. Let us remember that Ghana for a long time has done really well to tap markets to finance its growth paths.<\/p>\n
