{"id":4811,"date":"2019-10-16T14:29:05","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T14:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=4811"},"modified":"2019-10-16T14:29:05","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T14:29:05","slug":"probe-fraudulent-8-7m-metro-mass-buses-sacked-staff-petitions-chraj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/probe-fraudulent-8-7m-metro-mass-buses-sacked-staff-petitions-chraj","title":{"rendered":"Probe &#8216;fraudulent&#8217; $8.7m Metro Mass buses \u2013 Sacked staff petitions CHRAJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A former Security Coordinator of the Metro Mass Transit Company, Lawal Laah Fuseini, has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate what he describes as corruption and misappropriation of funds in the purchase of some 50 buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the petitioner, the contract was awarded on 6 November 2017 by the Chief of Staff (Cos), Frema Opare and the Ministry of Transport through GH-Daewoo Motors Ghana Limited for the procurement of the buses at a cost of $ 8, 750, 000.00<\/p>\n<p>Mr Fuseini said, judging by the total cost, it implies that \u201cone unit of the bus cost the country CIF US $175, 000.00 but a check with the company revealed massive fraud\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner explained that the same model of busses on the website of the company \u201ccost only FOB $75,000 as at 2019\u201d. In his opinion \u201cwhen you deduct the sum total of the actual cost given by the Chinese company of CIF US$ 3,750, 000.00 from the cost quoted by the government of Ghana of CIF US$ 8,750,000.00 in the said contract document, an excess of US $5,000, 000.000 is unaccounted for in this fraudulent contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Fuseini cited the Chief of Staff, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Deputy Transport Minister Titus Glover, Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited Albert Adu Boahen and CEO of GH-Daewoo Motors Ghana Limited Isaac Ofori Poku as the officials involved in the transaction.<\/p>\n<p>He is, therefore, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and culpable officials sanctioned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Security Coordinator of the Metro Mass Transit Company, Lawal Laah Fuseini, has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate what he describes as corruption and misappropriation of funds in the purchase of some 50 buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL).
