Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has chastised the government for signing one of the worst programmes under the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/b><\/p>\n

He chided the government for initially claiming it will not go to the IMF after all signals showed the economy was in comatose.<\/p>\n

But he said when it finally decided to go, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government \u201csigned the worst form of an IMF programme since Mansa Musa went on a pilgrimage to Mecca\u201d.<\/p>\n

Addressing audience at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Thursday, Dr Ato Forson noted that government signed one of the worst packages under the IMF.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is worth noting that this is the only IMF programme that came with a debt restructuring programme, in other words, \u2018haircuts\u2019- the first in the history of Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese \u2018haircuts\u2019 programme has impoverished the rich, the middle class and even the poor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis same debt restructuring has rendered our banking and financial institutions insolvent, bankrupt and, literally, on their knees.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam lawmaker took on the Bank of Ghana Governor for some of the ills of the economy, calling for his resignation.<\/p>\n

That resonated with the theme of the event, which was to discuss how the economy has come to this low level.<\/p>\n

For the Minority, a protest march on Tuesday, September 5 will see them demand the resignation of not only the Governor but also his two deputies as well as directors of the bank.<\/p>\n
