Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>After six days of the limited voter registration exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), the Ashanti Region has recorded the highest number of registrants so far.<\/b><\/p>\n

The exercise began on Tuesday, September 12 and it is scheduled to end on Monday, October 2.<\/p>\n

There was initial resistance against the exercise being conducted at EC\u2019s district offices.<\/p>\n

But after almost a week of the exercise, a total of 182,831 voters have been registered.<\/p>\n

The Ashanti Region has so far recorded the highest number of registration of 29,255, representing 16 percent, while the North-East Region has the lowest of 4,244, representing 2.3 percent.<\/p>\n

These were made known by EC Chair Jean Adukwei Mensa on Monday, September 18, when she addressed journalists on the turnout of the exercise so far.<\/p>\n

She expressed satisfaction with the exercise though conceding there were challenges at the initial stages.<\/p>\n

But after Day 6 of the exercise, every region except the Savannah Region, she revealed, recorded challenges with the registration kits.<\/p>\n

The online system broke down at some centers but this was quickly resolved, Mrs Mensah said.<\/p>\n

Below is the regional breakdown after Day 6<\/b><\/p>\n

Western \u2013 11,644<\/p>\n

Western North \u2013 6,491<\/p>\n

Central \u2013 17,590<\/p>\n

Greater Accra \u2013 27,264<\/p>\n

Volta \u2013 12,681<\/p>\n

Oti \u2013 4,427<\/p>\n

Eastern \u2013 19,327<\/p>\n

Ashanti \u2013 29,255<\/p>\n

Bono \u2013 6,580<\/p>\n

Ahafo \u2013 4,519<\/p>\n

Bono East \u2013 7,291<\/p>\n

Savannah \u2013 4,655<\/p>\n

Northern \u2013 12,982<\/p>\n

North-East \u2013 4,244<\/p>\n

Upper East \u2013 8,639<\/p>\n

Upper West \u2013 5,241<\/p>\n

More males have so far registered with the percent at 53.9 against 46.1%.<\/p>\n
