{"id":55275,"date":"2023-09-27T18:04:58","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T18:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=55275"},"modified":"2023-09-27T17:49:18","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T17:49:18","slug":"where-was-ofori-atta-when-ghana-was-going-to-imf-alan-asks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/where-was-ofori-atta-when-ghana-was-going-to-imf-alan-asks","title":{"rendered":"Where was Ofori-Atta when Ghana was going to IMF? \u2013 Alan asks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen says he was one of the few state officials to defend the move by government to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for bailout in 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He said the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you hear from the Finance Minister, having the confidence to defend it?\u201d he posed as he was interviewed on Accra-based UTV on Tuesday, September 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was only me and a few people who defended it and calmed the nerves of Ghanaians,\u201d he said in Twi.<\/p>\n<p>This comes in sharp contrast to what he said at the start to his truncated campaign of becoming NPP\u2019s flagbearer in the Greater Accra Region, in July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI brought PSI and if Ghanaians had listened to me, today Ghana wouldn\u2019t have gone to the IMF,\u201d he mentioned, taking a swipe at his own government, then, for taking the decision to go for bailout.<\/p>\n<p>Further expounding his ideals in Tuesday\u2019s interview, Mr Kyerematen says he is not asking other political parties not to leave their folds but to vote for him as president in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>He said they can vote for their party\u2019s candidates as Members of Parliament but when it comes to the Presidential elections, they should vote for him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\">Ghana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
