{"id":55917,"date":"2023-10-04T06:21:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T06:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=55917"},"modified":"2023-10-04T06:17:19","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T06:17:19","slug":"ghana-ranked-second-in-africa-for-momo-services-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/ghana-ranked-second-in-africa-for-momo-services-growth","title":{"rendered":"Ghana ranked second in Africa for MoMo services growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Ghana placed second behind Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire in Africa in terms of growth of mobile money services, according to the 2023 Oxford Economics Africa Report titled \u201cThe Africa Risk-Reward Index\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s impressive performance is in spite of the Electronic Transfer Levy (e-levy), which initially affected the volume and value of transaction when it was first introduced in May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the value of mobile money transactions in Ghana, Cote d\u2019lvoire and Senegal are well above 100% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, mobile money services have made more inroads in Africa than in any other region, with West African countries \u2013 namely Senegal, Ghana and Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire \u2013 leading the way,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe uptake of mobile money services \u2013 indicative of the need (and desire) to leapfrog traditional financial infrastructure. The value of mobile money transactions in South Africa equates to under 1% of GDP, while the corresponding figures for Senegal and Ghana are well above 100% of GDP\u201d, it added.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of mobile money accounts per 1,000 adults, the country placed second behind Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to mobile money agents per 1,000, Ghana was ranked second. Senegal placed first in this category.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that there seems to be an inverse relationship between the maturity of a country\u2019s financial sector and the uptake of mobile money services \u2013 an indicative of the need and desire to leapfrog traditional financial infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Total Mobile Money transactions in the country in the first eight months of 2023 hit a record <b>GHS1.190 trillion<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Bank of Ghana, active mobile money accounts as of August this year stood at <b>21.6 million<\/b>, whilst active agents stood at <b>556,000<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 Oxford Economics Africa\u2019s Report examined the profits and pitfalls of polarization in each African country, African-led security interventions, and how African countries are financing for the future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\">Ghana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
