Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has cut off water supply to the Takoradi Library Complex over non-payment of bill.<\/b><\/p>\n

The GH\u00a25.1 million donor-funded public library and office complex was built to address the educational and entrepreneurial needs of the people of the Western Region.<\/p>\n

Some offices in the library complex have since its commissioning, been rented out with the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) being directly in charge of the revenue collection.<\/p>\n

Many companies including government institutions currently operate from offices in the library.<\/p>\n

It, therefore, came as a surprise after news broke that officials of the Ghana Water Company Limited have disconnected water supply to the facility over debt.<\/p>\n

Confirming the news, Nana Yaw Barnie, the Western Region Communications Director of the Company, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM<\/b>\u2019s Omanbapa morning show that the facility has been owing them for some time now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe finance our operations through the bills we collect from our customers so if they refuse to pay, it becomes a worry to us.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Takoradi Library Complex has been owing us for over two months, so we went there and met the authorities. They assured us it would be paid but they failed so we went ahead to disconnect them,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n

He adds that the facility currently owes them an amount of GH\u00a22,252.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis bill excludes September and we can only reconnect them after all outstanding debt is cleared. We have also disconnected a popular hotel in Takoradi owing us over GH\u00a218,000 and we shall cut more off,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Many have expressed shock over the development.<\/p>\n

They are at a loss as to what the handlers of the facility have been using the accrued funds for.<\/p>\n
