Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned Friday\u2019s attack at its Greater Accra Region office, where some parliamentary aspirants were being vetted.<\/b><\/p>\n

The attack led to the manhandling of a Citi FM\/TV journalist, Akosua Otchere.<\/p>\n

The party has since condemned the incident and rendered unreserved apology to the journalist and her station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDC regrets and condemns the attack on Akosua Otchere in no uncertain terms,\u201d a statement issued by National Communication Officer Sammy Gyamfi on Saturday, October 14 said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conduct of the people who attacked the journalist is highly irresponsible and does not reflect our identity as defenders of press freedom and a party that fosters a cordial working relationship with the media.\u201d<\/p>\n

It said the party as a truly democratic and peace-loving political institution, upholds the critical role of the media in nation building.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe neither subscribe to nor condone acts of violence of any form let alone attacks on journalists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party takes full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and assures the general public, that we shall take immediate steps to fish out the perpetrators.\u201d<\/p>\n

It has assured that all those to be found culpable shall be dealt with in accordance with the disciplinary rules of the party and the laws of Ghana.<\/p>\n

The venue was a point of attraction on Friday as three aspirants and their supporters had gathered for the Odododiodoo Constituency vetting.<\/p>\n

The current Member of Parliament (MP), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has served notice not to seek re-election and so the stakes have risen for interested aspirants.<\/p>\n

Nii Okai Laryea, Kotey Ashie, and Michael Nii Yarboi Annang are the three seeking to succeed the former Youth and Sports Minister.<\/p>\n

Sammy Gyamfi expressed regret about the incident that occurred on Friday.<\/p>\n
