Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has referred last Friday\u2019s attack at its Greater Accra Region office, where some parliamentary aspirants were being vetted, to a special committee to investigate.<\/b><\/p>\n

The committee is tasked to make appropriate recommendations.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey on Tuesday, October 17 said that \u201cAt its regular meeting on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC discussed the unfortunate incident that occurred at its Greater Accra Regional Office during the vetting of aspirants for the Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary primary of the party.<\/p>\n

After extensive deliberations, FEC referred the violence that occurred and an appeal process that has been filed in respect of the eligibility of one of the aspirants, to a Special Committee to investigate and make appropriate recommendations.<\/p>\n

The Special Committee comprises of;<\/p>\n

1. Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho- Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana<\/p>\n

2. Dr. Samuel Sarpong- National Vice Chairman, NDC<\/p>\n

3. Mr. George Loh- Deputy, Director Legal, NDC<\/p>\n

4. Obuobia Darko-Opoku- Deputy Director of Communications, NDC<\/p>\n

5. Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu- MP for Wa West Constituency<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the meantime, all processes relative to the party\u2019s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have been put on hold pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Committee,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

The attack led to the manhandling of a Citi FM\/TV journalist, Akosua Otchere.<\/p>\n

The party condemned the incident and rendered unreserved apology to the journalist and her station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDC regrets and condemns the attack on Akosua Otchere in no uncertain terms,\u201d an earlier statement issued by National Communication Officer Sammy Gyamfi on Saturday, October 14 said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conduct of the people who attacked the journalist is highly irresponsible and does not reflect our identity as defenders of press freedom and a party that fosters a cordial working relationship with the media.\u201d<\/p>\n

It said the party as a truly democratic and peace-loving political institution, upholds the critical role of the media in nation building.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe neither subscribe to nor condone acts of violence of any form let alone attacks on journalists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party takes full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and assures the general public, that we shall take immediate steps to fish out the perpetrators.\u201d<\/p>\n
