Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Attorney-General\u2019s Department has forwarded a petition by the General Secretary of the People\u2019s National Convention (PNC) to the police for investigations to be conducted into a case of missing vehicle.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the petition filed by Janet Asana Nabla on Monday, August 28, the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the PNC, David Apasera, is accused of forging documents to claim ownership of a vehicle said to belong to the party.<\/p>\n

Initial investigations had proven that the vehicle was registered in the name of one Agyei-Gyamfi Kwame.<\/p>\n

But later it was confirmed that documents supported claims by Mr Apasera, who is said to have been handed the vehicle by former flagbearer Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama per party regulations.<\/p>\n

This provoked the party\u2019s petition not only to the Attorney-General but also to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).<\/p>\n

The A-G responded, indicating the matter is being taken very seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is essential to note, however, that we cannot intervene directly in individual cases or conduct our own investigations,\u201d the letter signed by the Principal State Attorney said.<\/p>\n

\u201cArrests and investigations fall under the purview of law enforcement bodies, in this instance, the police.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have authority and resources to investigate exhaustively any individual who is suspected to have committed an offence.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, we will forward your concern to the police and direct them to investigate the matter,\u201d the letter to Madam Janet Asana Nabla noted.<\/p>\n

The A-G added that once investigations are initiated, all witnesses including the petitioner will be invited to provide information and assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will aid in ensuring an exhaustive investigation and an equitable resolution of the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident that by taking this step, your concerns will be appropriately addressed and once the investigations are complete, our office will thoroughly review the docket and take the necessary action based on the available evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been internal wrangling within the PNC with several executives of the party suspended.<\/p>\n

Mr Apasera was confronted at Cantonments over the vehicle, which he was expected to hand over to the party after the 2020 elections.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was later impounded by the Nima Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service.<\/p>\n
