Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong says he dreams of following in the foot steps of former Celtic star Virgil Van Dijk in playing for the Dutch national team.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dutch born Ghanaian says he wants to one day play for the country of his birth Holland despite been born to a Dutch and Ghanaian parents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The youngster moved from Manchester City to join Celtic in the summer and has had fleeting appearances playing in Celtic’s last two games scoring and providing an assist in each of them but he says he wants to be an ever present in Neil Lennon’s side.<\/p>\n

Frimpong says his long term goal is to be a part of the vibrant young Dutch national team despite growing interest from Ghana.<\/p>\n

Frimpong said: \u201cI fully believe I can play in that company”. he told the daily record.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be exciting to be a part of that. They play a lot of young players as well who are really good. The Dutch are building.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack in the day they were great and they are keeping it up. I\u2019d love to be a part of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to follow Virgil. There\u2019s a pathway. You get chances here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 18 year old admits that he is not only working on his football but is trying to learn the Dutch language as he can barely speak Dutch.<\/p>\n

He says growing up the language spoken at home by his mum was English and Twi and the little Dutch he speaks is Hello and goodbye so is working on it.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI\u2019m still working on my Dutch! I know how to speak it a little. If I do play for the national team I will try to learn it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe language isn\u2019t the easiest to learn. The way they speak is fast so you just have to listen to what they are saying and look at their lips carefully. My sister speaks it fluently. She has been teaching me little bits but it\u2019s hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was English that was spoken in the house when I was growing up. That and the Ghanaian language called Twi.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mum would normally speak that to me but my brothers and sisters all speak English. The only Dutch they would use would be hello and goodbye.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is interest in me from Ghana but right now I want to play for Holland although I won\u2019t write off Ghana. I could play for England as well. If that came about it would be between those three but I don\u2019t have Scottish connections!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
