Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>A group calling itself Patriotic Forum for Accountability Governance (PaFFAG) has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for permission to embark on a procession in Accra in support of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.<\/b><\/p>\n

The procession, according to the letter written to the IGP, is scheduled to start at 8:00am and end at 7:00pm each day from Friday, December 1 to Friday, January 5, 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of this procession or assembly is to express our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President Akufo-Addo for sustaining the nation through Covid-19 pandemic and setting the nation on a path of economic recovery,\u201d said the letter signed by the Bono Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur intention is to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals to come together to show gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party.\u201d<\/p>\n

This move is seen as a reprisal to an announcement made by convenors of #FixTheCountry and #OccupyJulorbiHouse to picket near the seat of government from Friday, December 1 to Sunday, December 31.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Monday, October 9, organisers Democracy Hub said the one-month long protest will be dubbed: \u2018#JustResign\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe picket, themed #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #JustResign, will call on the President of Ghana, to resign immediately or be impeached by Parliament,\u201d its statement said.<\/p>\n

According to them, President Akufo-Addo\u2019s stewardship of Ghana \u201cdemonstrates incompetence, a lack of integrity, routine abuse of power, and greed\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are perturbed by high levels of persistent unemployment among the youth and the level of economic mismanagement that has jeopardised the future of young people as well as pushed nearly a million Ghanaians into poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n

They will convene at the 37 Lorry Station, just like in the Thursday, September 21-23 demo, before marching towards the seat of government.<\/p>\n

PaFFAG\u2019s request to the police also indicated same location as its converging point.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have carefully selected 37 bus stop to Jubilee House as the route for this demonstration due to its visibility and accessibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe assure you that we will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of all participants and the general public.\u201d<\/p>\n

It sought audience with the police to discuss details of this request.<\/p>\n
