Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing criticism from a prominent party figure, the former Local Government Minister, Hon. Kwadwo Agyei Darko has expressed his discontent with the party\u2019s decision to hold a special delegates\u2019 conference leading up to the November 4th Congress.<\/b><\/p>\n

Hon. Agyei Darko, who previously served as Local Government Minister during the leadership of John Agyekum Kufuor, firmly believes that the special delegates\u2019 conference is not only unnecessary but also a catalyst for the ongoing turmoil and disunity within the party. The former minister voiced his concerns during a radio discussion on Space FM in Sunyani, where he currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the NPP Bono Regional Council of Elders.<\/p>\n

Hon. Agyei Darko advised the party\u2019s election committee to take lessons from the 2007 Presidential primaries to ensure a smoother process. He emphasized the urgent need for the party leadership to address issues and restore the democratic foundation upon which the NPP was built. Effective political leadership should prioritize confidentiality and the unity of the group.<\/p>\n

In addition to criticizing the special delegates\u2019 conference, Hon. Agyei Darko openly accused some members of the council of elders at the national level of publicly endorsing specific aspirants before the conference. He believes that such actions are detrimental to the party\u2019s unity and democratic principles.<\/p>\n

This criticism raises concerns within the NPP as the party approaches its November 4th Congress. It remains to be seen how the party\u2019s leadership and election committee will respond to these remarks and whether any adjustments will be made as a result.<\/p>\n

The special delegates\u2019 conference was scheduled to take place on October 29th, 2023, ahead of the November 4th Congress, which will elect new executives to lead the party for the next four years. The NPP has been plagued by internal conflicts and divisions in recent years, leading to a loss in the 2020 general elections.
