Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former President John Dramani Mahama has responded to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the \u2018brandishing of weapons’ comment. <\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Mahama said in a tweet that President Akufo-Addo’s comment was \u201cis a bit rich, coming from a President who superintended the mayhem at Ayawaso West Wuogon and has not had a word of sympathy for the families of our 8 compatriots who died from state-sponsored violence in the 2020 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Akufo-Addo had said that he took note of some persons who brandished machetes and other weapons at the residence of former President John Dramani Mahama last week.<\/p>\n

Mr Akufo-Addo said that he hoped the persons who did that did not have in mind any attempt to cause violence in the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n

If that is the case, he said, they will not succeed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, former President John Mahama are not signs of things to come in the run-up to the 2024 elections. If it is, I can assure them that they will find no success with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to state for the record that under my watch, no group of people, no matter their political coloration will destabilize our country nor destroy the peace that all of us are enjoying, it will not happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Akufo-Addo said these when speaking at the Valedictory Service for the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He stated that the government is turning back the corner to growth and development.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure you that the Akufo-Addo government is working hard to return the economy to a high rate of growth and characterize the management of the economy in the years preceding the COVID outbreak in 2020, which made the economy one of the fastest-growing in the world at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can only do so if we forge ahead in unity and faith and have the belief that by the grace of Almighty God, the fortunes of Ghana under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo will be restored. I know times have been bad, but it is clear that our economy is rebounding back, and we are turning back the corner to growth and development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added \u201cTo get here, we had to take some difficult and hard decisions. The policies and programs we are implementing are meant to address the challenges, and it is evident that they are doing so.<\/p>\n

\u201cNevertheless, I will continue to need your understanding and active cooperation. We can make it if all of us work at it.\u201d<\/p>\n
