Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The government has pledged its commitment to support local pro\u00adducers to help boost their capacity to meet the nation\u2019s consumption needs.<\/b><\/p>\n

Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, made the pledge yesterday at the five-day agriculture festival to herald this year\u2019s Na\u00adtional Farmers\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cAGRIFEST 2023\u201d, the event, which was held within the Ministries en\u00adclave, was to showcase various agricultural products, services and equipment.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists after a tour of the agricultural produce and machinery on display, Mr Ofori-Atta stressed the impor\u00adtance of reducing reliance on imports and promoting self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the face of possible import restric\u00adtions, the government is prepared to stand behind our local producers. We acknowl\u00adedge their crucial role in the economic landscape, and our commitment is to ensure their prosperity,\u201d stated the Finance Minister.<\/p>\n

That, he said, aligned with the govern\u00adment\u2019s broader economic growth strategy, aimed at fortifying local productive capacity and reducing external dependencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy steadfastly support\u00ading local producers, the government aims to mit\u00adigate the potential impact of import restrictions on essential sectors, ensuring a continuous supply of vital goods and services,\u201d Mr Ofori-Atta stated.<\/p>\n

He said the govern\u00adment had developed a comprehensive support mechanisms, encompass\u00ading financial assistance, resource access, and policy frameworks designed to empower local producers.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to create an environment where local businesses not only survive but thrive. This support is integral to our vision of a robust and self-sufficient economy,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The programme was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Bryan Ache\u00adampong, and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, who both officially opened the event.<\/p>\n

A total of 145 companies and organ\u00adisations are actively participating in the AGRIFEST 2023, showcasing a wide array of offerings, from plant seedlings to farm produce, livestock, and advanced agricultur\u00adal machinery.<\/p>\n
