Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for the selection of Accra, as host of the 5th UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.<\/b><\/p>\n

This meeting is being held in for the first time in Africa.<\/p>\n

In her welcome address at the opening of the event, which is taking place at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, on Tuesday, December 5, she said: \u201cI wish to express my appreciation of the government and the people of Ghana to the UN Secretary-General and all member states of the special committee on peacekeeping, for the confidence reposed in Ghana to host the 5th UN Peace Keeping ministerial meeting in Accra which is the 1st on the continent of Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that \u201cthe challenges we face demand sustained commitment and collaboration.I urge each participant to translate the insight gained and the commitment made during our time together here, into tangible actions that will contribute to peaceful and global peace and security.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia later welcomed to the Jubilee House, H.E. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the UN, who is in the country for the UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur discussion touched on many areas, including on Ghana and the United States’ shared values and principled positions on the Security Council, such as global peace and security, climate and developmental issues,\u201d Dr Bawumia told journalists.<\/p>\n
