{"id":61928,"date":"2023-12-10T18:24:40","date_gmt":"2023-12-10T18:24:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=61928"},"modified":"2023-12-10T17:56:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T17:56:14","slug":"ev-policy-will-help-reduce-co2-emissions-energy-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/ev-policy-will-help-reduce-co2-emissions-energy-minister","title":{"rendered":"EV Policy will help reduce CO2 Emissions \u2013 Energy Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says Ghana\u2019s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy will accelerate efforts at cutting down on emission of carbon dioxide in the energy sector as the influx of EV fleets on our roads will displace most of the inefficient internal combustion engines and their associated high levels of emissions. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Prempeh made these remarks when he addressed Ghana\u2019s COP28 gathering in Dubai, UAE, during the launch by President Akufo-Addo of Ghana\u2019s National Electric Vehicle Policy.<\/p>\n<p>He said the implementation of the policy will lead to the creation of high demand for electricity and spur growth in the clean energy space, particularly solar energy for the charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, the launch of the EV policy is timely for the Ministry of Energy as we are working to deal with excess generation capacity with cost implications, and to ensure adequate, reliable, and affordable low-carbon electricity for the Ghanaian economy\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p>The Manhyia South law maker said the Just Energy Transition has become a global agenda that has attracted the attention of governments and multilateral organizations. \u201cWith these two vital policies, Ghana is positioned to attract investments into the clean and low-carbon energy and e-mobility sectors, create thousands of decent jobs and achieve value addition to the enormous natural resources through green and eco-friendly manufacturing of products and technologies for the economy\u201d he added. \u201cWe are ready for the electric vehicle and e-mobility evolution. With an electricity access rate of 88.85%, diffusion of electric vehicles on national scale is possible.
