Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his comment that he alone cannot decide on who becomes his vice presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

He says per the NDC’s constitution, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), the Council of Elders, and the flagbearer will have to meet and go through the list of possible candidates and decide on one.<\/p>\n

This decision, he said, would be taken in February 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears every region I go everyone has a vice presidential candidate for me. I said in Bono Region that the NDC constitution has stipulated how a running mate should be selected, I cannot take that decision alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to do that with the Functional Executive Committee and the Council of Elders and then go through the list of people who are qualified to be running mate then we select one. We are going to do that God willing February.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo all those who want their preferred persons to be selected should pray that our hearts will be touched to select that person. Let us all be patient and when the time is due we will,\u201d he said while interacting with the Chief of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana, Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, on Wednesday, December 13.<\/p>\n

For his part, Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II complained to Mr. Mahama that chiefs no longer wield the power that they had in the past to summon people to appear before them.<\/p>\n

He believes that the powers of the chiefs have been taken away by the laws of the land as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.<\/p>\n

Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II stated that people who are summoned by chiefs to appear before them call their bluff and even threaten to sue them<\/p>\n

\u201cI am glad you have visited me in my palace. Let me make this point that politicians have taken the powers of the chiefs, who are now powerless to the extent that people I summon to appear before threaten to take me to court, but this was not the case in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf [Mr Mahama] wants to come back then he should give us that power again and we will all support him.\u201d<\/p>\n

24-Hour Economy<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Mahama who is on his second phase of the \u2018Building Ghana Together’ tour, used the occasion to speak on his 24-hour economy idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not only the 24-hour economy we are propagating. Going into January, we will put out a lot on our economic policies that will revamp Ghana’s economy,\u201d John Mahama said.<\/p>\n
