Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Business magnate Dr Kofi Amoah, popularly known as Citizen Kofi,has called for an introspection into the make-up of the legislative arm of government.<\/b><\/p>\n

He opines that the usefulness of that institution is always reflected in the social welfare of the people represented.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the focus of such an institution is in the refinement of its processes and procedures that do not ultimately affect positively the welfare of the people, the expenditures of such institution from the public purse become a waste and result in only the creation of a special class of citizens with a long list of perks and privileges,\u201d he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as such they begin to hear the echo of their own voices to the detriment of the interests of the people they are supposed to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

And similarly, the usefulness of an expensive institution such as Parliament to the people who finance it must be reflected in the social welfare of the people, ie good-paying jobs availability, affordable healthcare, justice delivery, abatement of corruption if not it\u2019s complete elimination, etc<\/p>\n

If the focus of such an institution is in the refinement of its processes and procedures that do not ultimately affect positively the welfare of the people, the expenditures of such institution from the public purse become a waste and result in only the creation of a special class of citizens with a long list of perks and privileges… and as such they begin to hear the echo of their own voices to the detriment of the interests of the people they are supposed to serve.<\/p>\n

Pls don\u2019t misunderstand me … there are several good and smart people in our Parliament but the overall effectiveness of the legislative chamber to the growth and progress of our nation and her people must be weighed against its costs for evaluation, re-engineering or replacement, ie the size, the structure, a defined ceiling to its budget etc<\/p>\n

Our nation is in financial and identity crises and continuing in the same path over and over again (17 IMF Kowtows) and expecting different results from the status quo is, to quote Einstein, insanity<\/p>\n

Let us, with love for each other and only with the objective of seeking a better path for all of us, begin the serious and necessary process of the necessary reviews that will enable us redress the various albatrosses that are impeding the destined progress for our nation…<\/p>\n

We have no choice but to do this ourselves … Thank You<\/p>\n
