Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has blamed Ghana\u2019s economic woes on a lack of proper leadership structure.<\/b><\/p>\n

He has indicated that Ghana continues to face serious developmental setbacks due to visionless people elected to rule the country.<\/p>\n

Ghana has had eight successful national elections and five changes of governments from 1992-2020 making the country one of the shining examples of democracy in West Africa.<\/p>\n

Yet, the masses are of the view that the national elections and change of governments have not completely contributed positively to the development of Ghana.<\/p>\n

Akwasi Addai Odike, reacting to the people\u2019s concern in an interview with Onua News attributed Ghana\u2019s underdevelopment to poor leadership structure where the constitution has given the president prerogative powers over the masses.<\/p>\n

He has stressed that Ghana is practicing an up-bottom approach governance instead of a bottom-up approach system of governance hence paving the way for corruption to inhibit the development of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you look at the architectural structure of the 1992 constitution, it has given all the powers to the president which in real terms gives the country to a small group of people to rule\u201d.<\/p>\n

And this is contrary to participatory democracy where the masses are allowed to contribute to the development of the country but here in Ghana the masses are detached after elections, he reiterated.<\/p>\n

He maintained that Ghana is practicing an up-bottom-approach governance instead of a bottom-up approach system of governance hence sectors of Ghana\u2019s economy keep deteriorating.<\/p>\n

Odike was quick to add that if he wins power in the 2024 polls he will implement a philosophy called union government which focuses on reducing the powers of the president whereas people to head institutions will be selected on merit.<\/p>\n
