Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has expressed his gratitude and excitement upon receiving a call-up to the Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview with his club on Tuesday, January 2, Lamptey said, \u201cIt\u2019s an honour and it feels good. I am happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The midfielder was named among three home-based players in the final 27-man squad<\/b> for Ghana, which was announced by Black Stars coach Chris Hughton on Monday.<\/p>\n

Lamptey revealed that he was nervous when the names were being announced, but he believes that his hard work and performances on the local front earned him a spot in the squad. He thanked fans of Asante Kotoko, life patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the media for their support and encouragement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not going to disappoint them,\u201d Lamptey assured. \u201cI really thank them. They should keep praying for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Black Stars will begin camping on Tuesday, January 2 in Kumasi ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday, January 13. Ghana will open their campaign on Sunday, January 14 with a match against Cape Verde in Group B, before taking on record winners Egypt and Mozambique in the same group.<\/p>\n
