Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former President John Dramani Mahama has eulogized the late former Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye (ET) Mensah.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Mahama indicated that ET Mensah paid his dues to Ghana and hence deserves all the respect being accorded him.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview during the funeral ceremony of the former mayor of Accra, Mr Mahama said \u201cYou heard the varying roles that he played from the early days of the decentralization, from the district assemblies, he was Mayor of Accra, Minister of Sports, and Minister of Works and Housing. He has paid his dues to his country.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe ended up as a member of the Council of State and so he has actually paid his dues and he deserves the respect that we are giving him. He was also a member of our party, he was the longest-serving youth organizer of our party and so this is actually an NDC funeral.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked whether there is any lesson to be learned from his decision to contest to become a Council of State member under a New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Mr. Mahama who is also flagbearer of the NDC said \u201cYou don\u2019t necessarily have to be a member of the ruling party to be a member of the Council of State, he was elected, before he stood for elections he asked permission from the NDC.\u201d<\/p>\n

ET Mensah died in South Africa at the age of 77. A state burial was held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra for him on Friday January 5.<\/p>\n

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former, Chief of Staff, Frema Opare Osei, Ministers of State, members of the diplomatic corp and several other dignitaries from all walks of life also attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n
