Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>A security expert, Adib Sani, has blamed the Bawku conflict on impunity<\/b>.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the probability of troublemakers in Bawku getting punished is almost zero, hence the never-ending gun violence.<\/p>\n

Unknown gunmen fired into a group of people at the community center in Bawku on Wednesday, January 17, resulting in the death of two persons, while four others were injured.<\/p>\n

Speaking on its matter on the Hot Edition on 3FM on Thursday, January 18, Adib Sani said \u201cThe uncomfortable truth is that the level of impunity in Bawku is unfathomable, it defied all semblance of sanity. The probability of you getting held to account for killing in Bawku is almost zero. The Police themselves are protecting themselves and have constructed a huge wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Mahama Ayariga has also said that the shooting incidents that resulted in the killing of a lot of people and also the destruction of several properties is dastardly and unacceptable.<\/p>\n

It’s dastardly & unacceptable, look for the perpetrators and deal with them \u2013 Ayariga on Bawku shootings<\/p>\n

Mr Ayariga called on law enforcement agencies to act immediately to arrest and deal with the perpetrators.<\/p>\n

Commenting on this matter on Thursday, January 19 with Alfred Ocansey, Mr Ayariga said \u201cIt is unfortunate that we continue to experience this situation that has caused so many lives to be lost, so many people to be injured and hospitalized and so much property to be lost in Bawku central constituency.<\/p>\n

\u201c…those who were killed yesterday, that was dastardly, that was unacceptable and the perpetrators must be searched for by the law enforcement agencies and dealt with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week the Minister for the Interior, by Executive Instrument, renewed the curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am effective Friday, January 12, 2024.<\/p>\n

The government called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n
