Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Education, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has said he is capable and ready to be the vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if he is selected by the flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.<\/b><\/p>\n

He however noted that the power to choose is in the hands of the flagbearer.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he could be in the race for the vice presidential position while speaking in a yet-to-be-aired interview, Dr Spio-Grabrah, also a former Minister of Trade and Industry under the Mahama administration answered \u201cPeople tell me that, former Presidents have told me that, former President Rawlings said that to me, President Mills said that to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am also capable, I am also ready. So it is a matter of [the flagbearer’s] choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The full interview airs on Sunday at 2 PM on TV3.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Mahaam earlier stated that his running mate for the 2024 general elections will be named in February.<\/p>\n

He said this after reiterating his comment that he alone could decide who would become his vice presidential candidate.<\/p>\n

He said per the NDC’s constitution, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), the Council of Elders, and the flagbearer will have to meet and go through the list of possible candidates and decide on one.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears every region I go everyone has a vice presidential candidate for me. I said in Bono Region that the NDC constitution has stipulated how a running mate should be selected, I cannot take that decision alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to do that with the Functional Executive Committee and the Council of Elders and then go through the list of people who are qualified to be running mate then we select one. We are going to do that God willing, February.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo all those who want their preferred persons to be selected should pray that our hearts will be touched to select that person. Let us all be patient and when the time is due we will,\u201d he said while interacting with the Chief of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana, Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, on Wednesday, December 13.<\/p>\n
