{"id":65398,"date":"2024-01-25T17:38:48","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T17:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=65398"},"modified":"2024-01-25T16:09:52","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T16:09:52","slug":"major-general-thomas-oppong-peprah-appointed-chief-of-defence-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/major-general-thomas-oppong-peprah-appointed-chief-of-defence-staff","title":{"rendered":"Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah appointed Chief of Defence Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, as Chief of Defence Staff, effective Thursday, 1st February 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This is contained in a press release dated January 24, signed by the Director of Communication at the presidency, Eugene Arhin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis appointment has been made subject to consultation with the Council of State, pursuant to the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic,\u201d the release stated.<\/p>\n<p>It explained that the appointment \u201cfollows the imminent completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces, on Thursday, 1st February 2024, of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Akufo-Addo has expressed his deep gratitude to him for his devoted and meritorious service to the Ghana Armed Forces and to the nation,\u201d Mr Arhin wrote.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Statement, \u201cThe President has also appointed Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona as Chief of Army Staff, in succession to Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, with effect from Thursday, 1st February 2024. This appointment has also been made subject to consultation with the Council of State, pursuant to the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic.
