Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Due to the poor state of their roads, residents of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region have threatened not to allow any politician step foot in the vicinity to campaign during elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

They complain that government has ignored them over the years despite their pleas, thus denying them proper roads, a development that is taking a toll on commuters.<\/p>\n

During a protest to register their grievances Thursday, January 25, 2024, the residents noted they have no room to accommodate any politician until their issues, including security, sanitation and others have been resolved.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe it the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP), or National Democratic Congress (NDC), all of them, if they don’t fix our roads in Ashaiman and all the things that we need in Ashaiman, security, sanitation, things in Ashaiman, they shouldn’t even venture to Ashaiman to conduct any electoral processes or any elections or campaign. They have abandoned us for almost 8 years now, and we have not seen any improvements in Ashaiman,\u201d the aggrieved residents indicated.<\/p>\n

The Member of Parliament for the area, Ernest Norgbey has meanwhile, communicated his resolve to reshape 5 kilometres of the roads to temporarily bring some relief to the residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked a series of questions on the floor of the house, I spoke to the Minister for Roads and Highways, [Akwasi Amoako-Attah], and everything. We gave an ultimatum during the last demonstration, and the Assembly was adamant. Up to now, nobody has come to our aid, so we are doing something about 4 or 5 kilometres of reshaping of the roads. We will do it temporarily,\u201d Mr Norgbey indicated.<\/p>\n
