Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) report on the 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS) has revealed that two in every 10 married Ghanaian men have had extramarital affairs outside their marriage.<\/b><\/p>\n

Per the report, 17.5% of Ghanaian married men have two or more companions who are not their wives.<\/p>\n

Additionally, 18.4% of married men report having slept with someone other than their spouse.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, 18.7% of divorced, separated, or widowed males in Ghana have two or more partners, and 69.9% have engaged in sexual relationships with partners they are not married to.<\/p>\n

The report further indicated that 10% of men between the ages of 15 and 24 report having two or more partners, and 35.2% report having sex with someone who is not their spouse.<\/p>\n

According to the report, 80% of females between the ages of 15 and 24 engage in sexual activity without the use of condoms.<\/p>\n

Despite this, 79% of young women surveyed in the GSS report acknowledged that regular condom use can lower one\u2019s chance of contracting HIV.<\/p>\n

According to data from the Ghana AIDS Commission, as of 2022, women made up two-thirds of all new HIV infections in Ghana.<\/p>\n

Also, according to the 2022 national and sub-national HIV\/AIDS estimates and forecasts, there were 16,574 new HIV infections reported in Ghana. Out of this number, 10,927 of those cases were in females and 5,647 were in males.<\/p>\n

The GSS report surveyed 7,044 males for the study. The findings showed that 15% of men between the ages of 15 and 49 had had two or more sexual partners within the last 12 months. And 35% had engaged in sexual activity with an individual who was neither their spouse nor a partner.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, of the 15,014 women surveyed, 23% had slept with someone who wasn\u2019t their spouse or partner within the previous year. Of these women, 11% used a condom for their most recent sex with a partner of that type.<\/p>\n

When it comes to STDs, particularly HIV and stigmatisation, 78% of women and 72% of men who have heard of AIDS or HIV stated that they had biases towards those who are infected.<\/p>\n
