Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Founder of the United Front Party (UFP), Akwasi Addai Odike, wants the law that empowers the President to nominate District Chief Executives to be amended to take away that mandate from the president.<\/b><\/p>\n

He wants a system where all persons who are interested in the DCE position can file to contest in an election within the district for the people in the community to elect them.<\/p>\n

To him, the current modus operandi where the president nominates the persons, subject to approval by the assembly members, does not make the DCEs render proper accountability to the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf not for the bad governance that we are going through the president should not be appointing DCEs. The DCEs and the assembly members are the last legs of redevelopment and the districts themselves should elect their own DEC and glue the person to the community so he will be part of the community development,\u201d he said on the \u2018Pae Muka\u2019 Show on Onua FM with Yaa Titi on Tuesday February 6 while reacting to the sacking of some twenty-four DCEs by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Ado.<\/p>\n

President Akufo-Addo terminated the appointment of twenty-four District Chief Executives (DCEs).<\/p>\n

They include; the DCE for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Isaac Kwadwo Boabeng, and Adentan Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumua.<\/p>\n

The President revoked their appointment in accordance with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) b of the Local Government Act 2014 (Act 936).<\/p>\n

\u201cI respectfully request that you give immediate effect to my directive. I will, under a separate cover, write to you to nominate their replacement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking on Saturday Febraury 3, Dr Oduro said \u201cIt is almost certainly related to the upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately I believe that the decision by the president to revoke these appointments has so much to do with the upcoming general elections in November and December.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe interesting part is that the president is under no obligation to give reasons for his appointment, neither is he required to give reasons for revocation of appointment.<\/p>\n
