Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received over 500 applications for the vacant Black Stars coaching job, according to GFA Vice President Mark Addo.<\/b><\/p>\n

The position became vacant after the GFA sacked Irish-Ghanaian former Premier League manager Chris Hughton following Ghana\u2019s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Akoma FM, Addo assured Ghanaians that the best coach will be appointed, stating that the GFA is committed to selecting a coach who meets the required criteria.<\/p>\n

Addo, who is leading the search for a new coach as chair of the five-member committee formed by the GFA, expressed confidence in the process, citing the large number of applicants as evidence of the association\u2019s commitment to finding the right person for the job.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my second time leading a committee to pick a coach, and I can tell Ghanaians that we will hire the best coach for the Black Stars based on the criteria,\u201d Addo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received over 500 applications for the job and have shortlisted a handful. We are currently going through them and want to finish by next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the challenges that come with appointing a new coach, Addo remains optimistic about the future of Ghanaian football.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody wants outcomes more than we (the GFA), believe me; it just so happens that things don\u2019t always go as planned for various reasons, but we must keep moving forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

GFA President Kurt Okraku shares Addo\u2019s enthusiasm and has reiterated his commitment to leaving a lasting legacy in Ghanaian football.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, Okraku emphasised his ambition to win major international tournaments, including the AFCON and the FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to win the AFCON; I want to win the World Cup!\u201d Okraku declared. \u201cI want to win every competition Ghana finds itself. This is the collective belief and mindset of my fellow Executive Council members.\u201d<\/p>\n
