Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Deputy Finance Minister Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng has retained his ticket to contest the December parliamentary election as parliamentary candidate-elect for the Obuasi West Constituency.<\/b><\/p>\n

The January 27 primaries in Obuasi West were put on hold following a court injunction.<\/p>\n

Some aggrieved party members sought legal restriction on suspicion that the constituency\u2019s album was not credible for the January primaries.<\/p>\n

The plaintiffs withdrew the case days after filing a court injunction, paving the way for the primaries to be held on Saturday, February 10.<\/p>\n

After the polls were closed, the incumbent Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng secured 440 votes.<\/p>\n

Faustina Oppong Sarfo had eight votes, with Lawrence Nana Obeng Bondah securing 245 votes.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Asante Mampong Constituency is the only constituency left in the Ashanti Region to hold its primaries.<\/p>\n

The incumbent and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong and the former Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the NPP, Dennis Kwakwa, await a court decision on the credibility of the Constituency\u2019s album.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, many sitting Members of Parliament (28 in total) lost their candidatures in the recent NPP primaries held on January 27.<\/p>\n

Also in the lead-up to the party\u2019s primaries, 19 sitting MPs made the decision not to run for reelection.<\/p>\n

The situation has become a matter of great concern for the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.<\/p>\n

The Speaker bemoaned the exit of some experienced sitting members of parliament from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucuses of the house.<\/p>\n

To safeguard certain incumbent Members of Parliament, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on his part, urged political parties to examine their internal election procedures.<\/p>\n

According to him, the methods and processes used by political parties to choose their nominees have an impact on how effectively and efficiently Parliament runs its operations.<\/p>\n
