{"id":66514,"date":"2024-02-11T19:03:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-11T19:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/uncategorized\/npp-primaries-kwaku-kwarteng-retains-obuasi-west-ticket"},"modified":"2024-02-11T20:03:43","modified_gmt":"2024-02-11T20:03:43","slug":"npp-primaries-kwaku-kwarteng-retains-obuasi-west-ticket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/npp-primaries-kwaku-kwarteng-retains-obuasi-west-ticket","title":{"rendered":"NPP primaries: Kwaku Kwarteng retains Obuasi West ticket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Former Deputy Finance Minister Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng has retained his ticket to contest the December parliamentary election as parliamentary candidate-elect for the Obuasi West Constituency.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The January 27 primaries in Obuasi West were put on hold following a court injunction.<\/p>\n<p>Some aggrieved party members sought legal restriction on suspicion that the constituency\u2019s album was not credible for the January primaries.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs withdrew the case days after filing a court injunction, paving the way for the primaries to be held on Saturday, February 10.<\/p>\n<p>After the polls were closed, the incumbent Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng secured 440 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Faustina Oppong Sarfo had eight votes, with Lawrence Nana Obeng Bondah securing 245 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the Asante Mampong Constituency is the only constituency left in the Ashanti Region to hold its primaries.<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong and the former Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the NPP, Dennis Kwakwa, await a court decision on the credibility of the Constituency\u2019s album.<\/p>\n<p><b>Obuasi West Results<\/b><br \/>\nHon Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng = 440<br \/>\nHon Faustina Oppong Sarfo = 8<br \/>\nHon Lawrence Nana Obeng Bondah = 245<br \/>\n<b>Exit of seasoned MPs from parliament<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, many sitting Members of Parliament (28 in total) lost their candidatures in the recent NPP primaries held on January 27.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the lead-up to the party\u2019s primaries, 19 sitting MPs made the decision not to run for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>The situation has become a matter of great concern for the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon.
